Frequently Asked Questions
Mighty Buildings utilizes proprietary 3D printing construction technology and unique composite materials to make modern housing beautiful, affordable, and sustainable.
We have designed our units to be fully compliant with all aspects of the California Building Code, including Title 24 Energy and other standards.
Once you purchase your unit, we take care of the rest!
We can handle your permitting, delivery, and installation to save you time and much of the hassle that normally comes with traditional construction. Our method of construction and delivery greatly reduces the amount of site work compared to traditional construction. That means we can prepare your yard for the MB unit with minimal disturbance in just a few weeks rather than months.
As a one-stop builder, Mighty Buildings is a time-saving, affordable, and convenient option for your ADU. All you need to do is enjoy the beauty of your home and the endless opportunities that you’ve created in your backyard!
How do we do all of this? We have a simple process that takes the hassle out of construction. It all starts with a fully refundable deposit of $1,000*. We then do a preliminary check on your property to determine if it will be feasible to place one of our units on your property. Once this has been deemed successful, we conduct an in-person site visit on your property to get a thorough understanding of the scope of work and provide you with the project estimates. Once this process is complete, you can review these estimates and determine if the project will work for you. If the project is not feasible or you change your mind, we refund your deposit partially!
*The deposit is 100% refundable until a site assessment visit is scheduled. The deposit is 50% refundable if the site is not feasible.
We are based in the Bay Area and offer delivery anywhere in California! We partner with general contractors across the state to make sure that no matter where in the state you are, your unit will be delivered and installed to the highest standards. In the future, we plan to expand to other states and then the entire country, so stay tuned if you are dreaming of owning one of our Mighty Buildings outside of California!
We use our proprietary Light Stone Material, a thermoset composite similar to Corian. Lighter and stronger than printable unreinforced concrete, it is a revolutionary new material for construction.
- more thermally resistant than concrete
- can print spans without formwork/support structures
- hydrophobic: resulting in high resistance to water penetration and frost
- certified by UL and approved by the State of California
Mighty Buildings units offer an infinite number of possibilities and uses*. Whether you are interested in generating rental income, housing extended family, or want a beautiful office space steps away from your home, we have you covered!

After you pick your delivery date, It may take 4-6 months for the unit to be installed, depending on our back log. We run an initial compliance and feasibility check to evaluate the unique characteristics of your property as well as the regulatory requirements in your jurisdiction. We then develop site-specific design documentation to apply for the permits. Once permits are approved, it will take approximately 30 days for our partners to prepare the yard for delivery and installation while we manufacture the unit in our facility. Lastly, we will ship the unit fully finished and ready to install with only minor on-site work.
Our units leave our facility and travel to their final destination via truck. Depending on the specific characteristics of the site we will either move the unit into place via crane or roll-set. The delivery method is determined early on in the process based on the site assessment, so we will have plenty of time to find a delivery method that works best for your situation.
First, you need to own a piece of property that already has an existing home and which has enough space for a new building. Part of our process involves creating a personalized property assessment to make sure that we can place one of our units in your backyard in full compliance with all of your local zoning regulations.
Once this is complete, we will know with a high degree of certainty whether a unit can be placed in your yard and we can move one step closer to getting you the unit of your choice.
You can check the earliest available delivery dates on our website. Once your selected delivery date approaches it takes two weeks to complete the installation process after delivery. Once the final inspection has been completed and the certificate of occupancy issued by the local regulators, you are able to use your Mighty Buildings however you would like*!

Yes! We offer several exterior customization options including color and unit orientation. There are several elements that are not customizable including interior walls, fixtures, cabinets and MEP systems. The reason some of these elements are not customizable is because our product is manufactured in a controlled factory environment with advanced 3D printing technology that guarantees timely delivery, quality, and safety for our customers. Using the same process for every unit guarantees a high quality product with an affordable price.
Our current offerings are designed to be placed in the backyard of existing homes. This allows us to permit the unit as an ADU rather than a single family home. However, it is also possible to place our units on an empty plot of land as a primary residence, or as an ADU while the main dwelling is being constructed. In this case, we would send the unit to you and you would work with a general contractor of your choice to prepare the site, obtain permits and install the unit.
Each unit has a full bathroom and a kitchen area. Basic appliances come installed in the unit including washer/dryer, dishwasher, refrigerator, stove, and microwave. There is an in-wall HVAC system in each unit. You may take a virtual tour of our units at: https://my.matterport.com/show/?m=muTu7aT5s6H my.matterport.com/show/?m=muTu7aT5s6H

Yes, due to our unique construction process we are able to eliminate the 3-5 lbs/sf of waste which goes to landfill, on average, in traditional construction. We do this by printing only what we need. Additionally we are able to recycle our material for use in future units.
We have also extensively tested the material to ensure that it is non-hazardous, including with regard to VOCs and indoor air quality.
Yes. The units have been designed to fully comply with California’s Title 24 Energy Efficiency requirements and we use Passive House Standards as our guiding light in seeking to go beyond the bare minimum. With a fully printed structure we will further eliminate thermal bridges and air gaps in order to increase the energy efficiency even further. The sustainability of our products is core to our mission both from an environmental impact perspective as well as lowering cost of ownership to address the housing affordability crisis.
